SPEEDWORKS STORMS INTO TOP 3 AT THRUXTON
Last weekend saw Round 2 of the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup at Thruxton. Speedworks were running only two cars as Tony Hughes and Mark Proctor were unable to race due to work commitments. This left Team Principal Christian Dick and Speedworks regular Richard Sykes to go to work.
After a torrid Brands Hatch meeting, Christian was hoping to come to terms with the set up and handling of the car and compete at the front once again, this he did with an impressive 3rd in race 1, 4th in race 2, and 6th in race 3. "Our best result at Brands Hatch was 6th and at Thruxton it was our lowest result, so we've made a massive amount of progress and now we can comfortably race at the front." Said Christian, "We still have plenty of work to do, but we know we're headed the right way up the field!"
Richard Sykes, once again able to race his own car after the long trip back from the States, had an improved weekend. A good trio of results that saw Richard teetering on the edge of the top ten in 11th place in Race 1 & 2, but finally cracking the top ten in the final race of the weekend. A fantastic step forward in his newly liveried mysportzone.co.uk machine.
The Ginetta G50s are next out at Donington Park for the third round of the Championship on 16/17 May, where Speedworks will be fielding all 4 cars, with Tony Hughes making his 2009 debut!

What a credit to the Ginetta G50's
Richard Sykes - Co-Driver Nick Hull
Tony Hughes - Co-Driver Christian Dick
The weeklong trip to the States brought much fun and much excitement.
Speedworks Motorsport organized two cars, four drivers, two mechanics and two support staff.
The night race saw Sykes/Hull beating Hughes/Dick on the final lap, while Hughes/Dick took victory in the 3-hour race.
Ginetta claimed 16th and 19th overall (2nd and 3rd in class) out of 65 starters including several LMP1 cars including a Le Mans winning Audi R8!
Both cars returned unscathed with drivers celebrating a great week of pre-season racing and much awaited sunshine.
